Project Overview
Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Irwin Hubley Project takes full advantage of its stunning ocean-view setting. The homeowners wanted a light and airy atmosphere—without bulky curtains or heavy blinds that would block the natural view.
To achieve this, our team designed and installed custom double sheer drapes for the patio doors to maintain transparency while offering gentle light diffusion and privacy. For the smaller windows, we paired custom roller shades in coordinating fabrics for practical light control and a consistent aesthetic throughout the space.
Design Choices & Benefits
Custom Double Sheer Drapes
These elegant sheers create a soft, layered fabric barrier that maintains the sense of openness while filtering sunlight beautifully. Even when closed, the translucent texture allows natural light to flow in, preserving a bright, coastal ambiance and unobstructed visual connection to the outdoors.
Custom Roller Shades for Smaller Windows
The compact, minimalist design of roller shades makes them ideal for secondary windows. They provide functional privacy and glare control while harmonizing perfectly with the sheer drapes, maintaining balance and cohesion across the rooms.
Cohesive Ocean-View Aesthetic
Both treatments share complementary fabrics and tones that blend seamlessly with the home’s modern interior. The overall effect is calm, elegant, and refined—allowing the ocean view to remain the focal point.
Function in Daily Use
- Daytime Comfort: The sheer drapes softly diffuse sunlight, keeping the interior bright yet protected from harsh glare.
- Evening Privacy: At night, the drapes and roller shades can be easily adjusted or closed to create privacy without darkening the space abruptly.
- Seamless Flow: The lightweight materials and concealed hardware maintain a sleek, uninterrupted transition between indoor and outdoor living areas—ideal for an oceanfront home in Halifax.
